Office of the City Veterinarian
1. The City Veterinarian exercises general supervision and control of the day-to-day activities of the Office;
2. Responsible for the development of animal industry;
3. Helps in the prevention and control of animal diseases;
4. Safeguards public health; and
5. Exercises such other power and performs such other duties and functions as maybe prescribed by the law or ordinance.

To vaccinate 70% of the canine population against anti-rabies and porcine population against hog cholera and conduct seminars on scientific animal production.

To present and control animal desiases, to ensure public heath and safty and develop measures to improve livestock industry.

AI Coordinator visited City Veterinary Office
March 23, 2012, Mr. Jose Canaria, Artificial Coordinator of the Philippine Carabao Center together with two personnel from the Department of Agriculture Region V visited our office to give us liquid nitrogen in our mother tank for Artificial Insemination in Large Ruminants

The Legazpi Animal Breeding Center is located at Barangay Banquerohan 19.5 kilometers from Legazpi City Hall.

The Center was erected in a 1,000 hectare meter lot along a paved provincial road in the southern part of the city and is strategically located centrally between the southern barangays of Legazpi

The center aims to improve genetically the existing breeds of livestock and poultry through: 1) Artificial insemination services to pig, cattle, goat and carabao; 2) Crossbreeding of native chicken with foreign breeds of chicken; 3) Embryo transfer technology in swine.
At present the City Veterinary Office is conducting Artificial Insemination in Large Ruminants in barangay Taysan, Homapon, Mabinit, Matanag and Pawa, Legazpi City.

Mass vaccination is conducted in every barangay of Legazpi City annually targeting at least 70% of the canine population to be vaccinated against rabies. This program aims to eliminate, if not decrease the rabies case and human deaths in the area caused by rabies.
The Legazpi City Slaughterhouse is located in San Roque one of barangays of Legazpi City which is 2.5 kilometers away from the public market.

Its main objective is to protect public health and safety. Meat Inspection is conducted to ensure that the meat is free from zoonotic disease and safe for public consumption. Animals are slaughtered at the City Abbatoir before it is sold in the market for public consumption.
Mass Vaccination
Last year the City Veterinary office conducted Mass Vaccination in 51 barangays of Legazpi City and we have vaccinated 7,126 dogs.

On January 26, 2012, we conducted mass vaccination in Barangay 70, Cagbacong we have vaccinated 77 dogs. On January 30, 2012 in Barangay 62, Homapon, Legazpi City, we have vaccinated 147 dogs.

Last February 2, 2012 we have conducted mass vaccination in Barangay Buraguis, vaccinated 127 dogs; on February 24, 2012 in Barangay 19, Cabangan, vaccinated 76 dogs; on February 25, 2012 in Barangay 44, Pawa, vaccinated 241 dogs and on February 28, 2012 in Barangay 25, Lapu-Lapu, vaccinated 55 dogs with walk-in clients of 29.

On March 3, 2012 conducted mass vaccination at Barangay 65, Imalnod, vaccinated 122 dogs; March 6, 2012 in Barangay 67, Bariis, vaccinated 64 dogs; March 10, 2012 at Pigcale and Sabang, vaccinated 75 dogs,March 17, 2012 at Pawa, vaccinated 84 dogs; March 24, 2012 at Puro, vaccinated 130 dogs, March 28, 2012 at Tinago, vaccinated 21 dogs; and on March 31, 2012 in Barangay Binanuahan west, vaccinated 61 dogs.

This April 14, 2012 we conducted mass vaccination in Barangay Binanuahan, vaccinated 120 dogs; April 20, 2012 in Barangay San Joaquin, vaccinated 110 dogs; on April 21, 2012 in Barangay Sagpon, vaccinated 85 dogs and on April 24, 2012 in barangay Matanag and vaccinated 91 dogs.
Medical Mission with ES in Barangay Pawa, Legazpi City
On March 17, 2012 we have conducted medical mission with Estrous Synchronization in Large Ruminants in Barangay Pawa, Legazpi City. The City Veterinary Office have given flukicide to large ruminants to address liver fluke infestation, vitamin ADE injection for malnoursihed cattle and carabao, given also mineral block for malnourished and to enhance breeding capabilities, antibiotic injection to treat Hemorrhagia, septicemia, pneumonia, etc. we have given also wound spray to treat the wounds of the cattle and carabao.
